Responsibilities include building relationships with business partners, understanding, documenting and helping to improve business processes and practices, guiding business cases through the IT governance process, enabling change by defining needs and recommending solutions that deliver value to our stakeholders. The Business Analyst elicits, analyzes, validates, and documents business and stakeholder requirements, functional and non-functional requirements, and transitional requirements. This analysis is done in collaboration with our business partners in order to add value to their operations and achieve Illinois State University's goals and objectives. Exceptional communication skills are critical to the success of this position. In particular, business analysts play a central role in aligning the needs of business units with the capabilities delivered by information technology, and will serve as a "translator" between those groups. They handle multiple projects simultaneously, therefore, time management and organizational skills must be excellent in order to ensure quality work is consistently delivered. A Business Analyst is responsible for creating business cases; facilitating meetings; managing BA-led projects; discovering, understanding, and documenting and/or improving processes; gathering and documenting requirements and business rules; negotiating requirements on behalf of the business and IT; writing use cases; and assisting with testing changes to ensure they meet requirements. Additional Information: Required Qualifications 1.Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Communications, or a related field; or Bachelor's degree in another field with equivalent experience in Information Systems 2.Six (6) months of full time (or part-time equivalent) experience working as a Business Analyst or related position in an IT environment 3.Experience with or awareness of business transformation and business process redesign to support IT system modernization 4.Ability to identify functional issues and inefficiencies including cross-silo redundancies within and throughout business partner areas 5.Ability to elicit business and stakeholder requirements, functional and non-functional requirements, and transitional requirements, as well as writing use cases 6.Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings, driving toward decisions, and documenting notes 7.Ability to design and/or improve business process directly or through consulting and partnering in designing software-based and non-software-based solutions 8.Experience in conducting research and formulating recommendations 9.Ability to create deliverables such as requirements documents, business process maps, and executive summaries through utilizing standardized templates, following specific processes, and applying best practices 10.Demonstrated experience establishing healthy business relationships and serving as both liaison and partner to the business and technology staff 11.Ability to identify issues and risks to a project or individual work early and work to mitigate those risks and escalate to management when necessary 12.Ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of detailed information, quickly understand complex issues, and break information down into smaller, more manageable pieces 13.Ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder environment and also with project steering teams with executives 14.Ability to facilitate meetings in an efficient and effective manner to meet participants at their level of understanding and build consensus 15.Ability to learn negotiating skills with parties with varying view points and opinions 16.Possess excellent documentation skills, including editing and proofreading skills 17.Ability to think creatively and apply that creativity in various scenarios from individual work to project efforts to drive innovation 18.Ability to multi-task, and manage multiple deadlines and tasks that may be very different in nature to ensure on time work completion 19.Ability to work independently and in a team environment with excellent communication and collaboration skills 20.Provide strong customer service skills along with a desire to achieve excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability. 21.Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of Academic and Administrative employees 22.Must have strong organizational skills 23.Must possess and demonstrate excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to assess situations, troubleshoot, and make recommendations from both strategic and tactical perspectives 24.Ability to use process mapping techniques and tools 25.If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. Desired Qualifications: 1.Master's degree in Business, Information Systems, Technology, Communications, or a related field 2.LEAN certified 3.Six Sigma certified 4.IIBA or PMI Certification 5.Demonstrated experience in software testing 6.Agile BA experience 7.Experience with higher education administrative systems 8.Demonstrated experience in Modeling Techniques: UML (Use Cases, Activity Diagrams, Usability) Necessary Licenses/Certifications/Degrees 1.Bachelor's degree Hiring Rate/Range $50,000 - $65,000 annually Stipend: Work Hours Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate Proposed Starting Date: May 2019 Posting date 05-03-2019 Closing date 05-17-2019 Special Instructions to Applicants This position may last up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
