Request/Posting Number 0712156 Classification Title Business/Administrative Associate Working Title Chemistry Laboratory Manager Job Class 005010 Type of Position Civil Service Percent Appointment: 1-100 (For Student Employment and Graduate Assistant Only; state hours per week) 100% Representation: Non-Union Department Chemistry - 04160000 Job Category Staff General Summary The purpose of the position is to assist the Chair in the overall supervision of the physical operations of the Department of Chemistry, in particular the stockroom, laboratories, and faculty and student research programs. This position also ensures that the Department functions satisfactorily in order to provide laboratory instruction and research programs for students and faculty. Assigned tasks, if not completed or performed correctly, have a direct effect on the student's grade and the faculty member's performance. Equipment must function and funding and materials must be available, and all of these fall within the scope of this position. Additional Information: Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, management, science, or engineering. 2. Two (2) years of professional level accounting, managerial, and/or business experience, one (1) year of which was at an administrative level. 3. At least four semesters of college chemistry or enough demonstrated laboratory experience to know all the chemical nomenclatures and concepts required to calculate as required to make the various types of solutions and mixtures required for our laboratory courses and research requests, and to deal with chemical safety issues. 4. Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing and receiving procedures. 5. Excellent oral and written communication skills. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, then employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources. Desired Qualifications: 1. Familiarity with budgeting procedures and knowledge of State and University system of accounting, including all aspects of the Datatel system, in order to understand accounting reports and to convey this report to the faculty in a language they will understand. 2. Knowledge of building maintenance to enable the person to recognize what services are required to keep the physical facilities in a safe and usable condition. 3. Five (5) or more years of laboratory experience.
