Overview Sign on Bonus Available $10,000 greater than 1yr of

The Histology Tech receives and ensures the correct identification
of specimens and prepares specimens for microscopic examination by
the pathologist. They are responsible for performing routine
histopathological tasks including microtomy, embedding,
immunohistochemistry and special staining procedures in preparing
specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist. Assists in
frozen sections and Radiology procedures according to protocols
using appropriate instrumentation, and evaluation of information
taking appropriate action as needed without supervision.
Demonstrates understanding of scientific theories and techniques of
procedures performed. Qualifications Certifications:
Histotechnician (HT) within 2 years - American Society for Clinical
Pathology (ASCP), Education: Associate's Degree Biological Science
or Related field Responsibilities -Utilizes knowledge of LIS, HIS
and appropriate software systems as they apply to the
laboratory.-Complies with requirements of CAP, Accrediting
Organization and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) and
other regulatory agencies.-Regularly displays unique problem
solving skills to address department and /or customer needs or
problems.-Correlates various clinical laboratory testing with
cytological and histological procedures, applying to clinical
conditions.-Maintain specimen integrity with shared specimens in
clinical lab.-Evaluates problems and initiates troubleshooting
relating to methodology including instrumentation and procedures
appropriately notifying Section Supervisor as needed.-Demonstrates
understanding of the basic and complex principles and functions of
laboratory instrumentation used.-Performs, records, and monitors
all QC data and instrument maintenance following established
procedures which includes proper documentation.-Looks for ways to
improve processes and recommends solutions. Participates in quality
improvement initiatives.Successfully participates in all
accreditation and other proficiency testing and annual performance
competencies. After deemed competent in department, assists
leadership with signing off other staff members annual
competency.Completes Continuing Education as required by Lab policy
and maintain certification if applicable.Participates in training
of new personnel. Mentors others in skill
developments.-Participates in laboratory projects as assigned to
expand knowledge base. -Consistently demonstrates competence in
slide and tissue processing preparation in accordance with
established procedures, and does so with minimal error. Receives
and processes specimens in accordance with accepted procedures
demonstrating an ability to prioritize and complete testing in a
timely manner. Performs special stains, assists with radiology
procedures and frozen sections, and cytological preparations in
accordance with established procedures and age specific policies.
-Maintains a clean and safe work area. Follows established
laboratory safety procedures in accordance with all regulatory
agencies. -Prepares fine needle aspiration tote, and provides cups
with appropriate fixative to all designated areas. -Pick-up
pathology specimens from surgical unit, endoscopy center, Same day
surgery, and other hospital areas as requested. Assist Pathologist
with Accession, organize, number, label patient containers and
cassettes according to protocol. Able to gross specimens as
appropriate. -Maintains integrity of all stains, changing solutions
per protocol or additionally needed in both tissue processors and
automatic stainer. Performs Pathology Sendouts to various reference
labs at the direction of Pathologists. -Freeze and cut frozen
tissue on cryostat. Stain and coverslip all frozen section slides
and touch preparation smears. -Monitor and ensure supplies are
marked appropriately as required and notifies section Lead of
department needs. Perform department and shift specific duties as
assigned. Maintain a clean, stocked and safe department. Follows

this position is $27.15per hour - $45.34per hour. This represents a
good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of
posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a
candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but
not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications,
location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
