Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional
caregiver. The RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients
for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients
via the utilization of the nursing process. Responsibilities and
duties are performed as specific to the scope of service.
Procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice
are implemented. Up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing
care is maintained. The RN completes initial assessment upon
patient admission. An appropriate plan of care is developed in
accordance with unit standards. The plan of care is based on
patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care,
nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The plan of
care is modified based upon continuous evaluation. Responsibility
for patient and employee safety is taken by reporting and/or
correcting safety hazards. Communication with others is direct and
private when necessary to resolve issues. Constructive feedback is
offered to assist in the professional development of peers.
Colleagues are conferred with to expand the knowledge base. The RN
identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to find
appropriate solutions. All requirements of departmental
