Job Description:
The Nuclear Medicine PET/CT Technologist (Technologist) prepares
and administers dosages of radiopharmaceuticals and contrast media,
supplied by manufacturers, to patients in preparation for
diagnostic procedures under the direct supervision of the
Radiologist or Radiation Oncologist. The Technologist prepares and
positions patients for scanning and operates nuclear medicine
instruments and imaging equipment, including a PET/CT scanner. The
Technologist is responsible for performing radiation safety and
quality control procedures, disposal of radioactive materials, and
monitoring work area and patient rooms to ensure that the levels of
radioactive materials are in accordance with NRC regulations. The
Lead PET/CT Technologist oversees day-to-day activities and
functions while providing working supervision to CT Technologist as
directed by Management in an effective, timely, and professional
manner. Also, gives consistent guidance to CT Technologist on
setups, work flow, and standard practices.
- Positions and handles patients with a higher degree of
professional ethics, care, courtesy, patience and safety. performs
procedures with proper positioning and protocol to obtain the
desired results for diagnosis.
- Calculates, measures, and records radiopharmaceutical dosages
received, used, and disposed using computer and following
physicians prescription. Draws up and calibrates radionuclide doses
for the indicated study, in accordance with State regulations.
Under guidance and approval of site Radiologist, administers
contrast agents and/or radiopharmaceuticals according to
site-specific protocols. Keeps records of acquisition and
disbursement of all radionuclides according to the applicable
regulations.
- Determines proper technical factors when operating the various
scanning and imaging equipment. Performs ordered examinations of
appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted
standards of practice and protocols of the individual site-reading
physician.
- Administers First Aid or CPR as reuiqred and assists in cases
of adverse reactions to injections or other emergencies.
- Performs periodic quality control on various equipment in
accordance to ACR guidelines and State and Federal regulations.
Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots problems. Calls
for service and notifies all pertinent team members. Complies with
all safety policies and regulations including radiation
safety.
- Oversees day-to-day activities and functions while providing
working supervision to CT Technologist as directed by Management in
an effective, timely, and professional manner. Gives consistent
guidance to CT Technologist on setups, work flow, and standard
practices.
- Coordinates continuing education, in-service education, and new
employee orientation as needed to satisfy regulatory and
developmental requirements. Assists with onboarding and training of
all new hire PET/CT Technologist and CT Technologist employees and
students.
- Cooperates with facility healthcare professionals and complies
with facility policies/procedures to maintain occupational
radiation exposures ALARA. Follows all quality assurance guidelines
and maintains patient confidentiality.
- Diligently monitors and evaluates employee performance to
ensure that the highest quality of services are provided, all
Center policies and procedures are followed, and provides
continuous and constructive feedback to Management regarding CT
Technologist or other imaging staff.
- Helps Management with policy and procedure review and/or
updates for imaging practices.
- Accepts and completes other duties as assigned.
- Guides, oversees, evaluates and recommends appropriate reward
and/or disciplinary actions for imaging staff and Diagnostic CT
Technologist to Management.Required
