Job DescriptionSalary: Summary/Objective The IONM Technologist will monitor neurophysiologic central/peripheral functioning throughout the operative procedure communicating with surgeon, remote monitoring physicians, anesthesia personnel and nursing staff as necessary according to facility policy and procedures.Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Preoperative:

  • Reviews planned intraoperative procedure and orders for monitoring to determine the structures at risk relative to patient history/pre-existing conditions and monitoring requested. Make needed adjustments in monitoring by communication with correct personnel and maintain patient confidentiality according to facility policy and procedures
  • Communicates with needed departments to obtain access and scheduling of patient according to facility policy and procedures
  • Prepares equipment and supplies for required monitoring of patient according to lab protocol. Identify correct patient by name, ordering surgeon, and type of procedure to be performed and communicate the monitoring plan to the patient/caregivers/family in language consistent with their ability to understand
  • Measures and mark correct recording and stimulation sites and apply electrodes according to facility policy and procedures Intraoperative:
    • Positions monitoring equipment in the operating room to ensure patient electrical safety and ability to communicate with remote monitoring physicians, anesthesia personnel, surgeons, and nursing staff according to facility policy and procedures
    • Communicates with OR staff and remote monitoring physicians as needed to enhance monitoring results
    • Discusses baseline recordings with surgeon according to facility policy and procedures. Make any needed adjustments in monitoring according to the facility policy and procedures
    • Recognizes clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results
    • Documents in monitoring log and remote reader physician chat, throughout the monitoring process, all relative communications/responses, physiological status, anesthetic adjustments and changes, according to facility policy and procedures
    • Obtains permission from ordering surgeon to discontinue monitoring, remove all recording and stimulating electrodes, check electrode placement sites for potential problems, and notify appropriate personnel if problems are identified, according to facility policy and procedures Postoperative:
      • Provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedures
      • Cleans/disinfects equipment according to facility policy and procedures.
      • Collects and/or uploads required documents to be uploaded into the medical data workflow system dictated by interpreting personnel according to facility policy and procedures
      • Completes reports in the medical data workflow system as required by company policy and procedures
      • Provides necessary documents to facility per facility policy and proceduresCompetencies

      • Problem SolvingSupervisory ResponsibilityThis position will not have supervisory responsibilities.Work Environment This position is performed in an operating room/medical facility environment. This role routinely uses standard IONM equipment. Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position requires the ability to concentrate and sit for long periods of time under stressful conditions and still perform properly and effectively without food and bathroom breaks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to walk frequently, frequent standing, lifting to 50lbs, pulling and pushing more than 50lbs, and frequent bending/stooping/crouching/twisting and continuous repetitive movements. Physical exposure demands would be lighting bright and dim, mechanical hazards, hazardous substance, infectious diseases, ionizing/non-ionizing radiation and toleration of temperature ranges 60-75 degrees F.TravelModerate travel is expected for this position.Required Education and Experience
        • Bachelor's degree or CAAHEP Diploma, registered EP T. or EEG T., certification of completion from ABRET recognized program Preferred Education and Experience
          • CNIM Certification Other duties may be assigned. This position may require work outside of normal business hours. Compensation Education and experience will be considered when job offers are extended.
